I’ve been a foster with Bideawee for a little over half a decade, beginning when I was a college sophomore. I was battling a new diagnosis of an autoimmune disorder and grew up in a household where my family had many pets. In being on my own in the city battling something that brought me such isolation, volunteering to foster filled my lonely heart and gave me the companionship I needed.
My first adoption from Bideawee was a hospice adoption of my foster Donut, who I had for three years before he succumbed to his heart disease. I loved Donut more than anything in the world and he’s missed every single day. I fostered quite a few dogs before I fostered Buddha (now Bruno), who my parents adopted, and brought home Bideawee alum Hash Brown who I’ve now had for three years! Hash Brown loved visiting Bruno in Rhode Island and had separation anxiety when we’d part. After a really difficult year where I needed more support than just Hash Brown, I decided it was time to adopt another dog to keep him company when I’m away during the day for my grad school classes.
I saw an instagram post for Chestnut and couldn’t stop coming back to his picture. I brought in Hash Brown to meet him and for me it was love at first sight when I saw how Chestnut pranced around the playpen like a little deer. I’ve named him Whiskey and he and Hash Brown have become best friends! I’m set to live in London for the summer for a huge production of my work (I’m a playwright); and I’m making arrangements now for the boys to come with me. Whiskey is about to have a London summer. I couldn’t be happier. Thank you Bideawee!
